Prerequisite: You must have completed identity proofing (IDP) and the Activate EPCS process to be authorized for electronic prescribing for controlled substances (EPCS) in iPrescribe. This includes having received a letter with QR code in the mail, and using it to finish activating your EPCS permissions.
1. Log in to iPrescribe.
2. Tap the New Rx the (pencil) icon.

3. Search for and select your patient.

Note: Make sure the patient has Address Line 1 filled out and a pharmacy selected before creating a prescription.

4. Tap the Create New Rx button at the bottom of your screen.

5. Add a medication:
(A) Search for the drug name at the top of your screen.
(B) Select the drug you want to prescribe for the patient.
(C) Select the dosage from the drop-down menu that appears.

6. Create the prescription.
Select a SMART SIG (if enabled) or tap Continue to fill out all required details.

7. Check the disclaimer box to certify that you are the provider logged in and tap Continue.
8. Review the prescription, then click Approve at the bottom of your screen (you may need to scroll down).
If this is your first time sending a controlled substance, you will need to:
(A) Press the Sign and Send button instead of the Approve button
(B) Enter your Signature Password on the next screen

9. Finally, enter your two-factor authentication:
- Enter the EPCS passphrase that you created for controlled substance prescriptions
- Select your token from the drop-down menu and enter the 6-digit code from that token
10. Tap Sign.
You have four minutes to sign and send the controlled substance before the signing process times out.

After signing, this prescription will show in the patient's medication history.
