iPrescribe: Create a new prescription

This article will take you through how to create a new prescription on the iPrescribe application.

Step 1

From your iPrescribe home screen, tap the New Rx (pencil) icon.

Step 2

Perform one of the following (A or B):

(A) Search for a patient in the search bar at the top, then select a patient from the search results.

(B) Select a patient under the section labeled recent patients.

Step 3

Tap the Create New Rx button at the bottom of their profile screen.

Step 4

Follow the steps outlined below in chronological order:

(A) If you already have a Favorite RX (a prescription you have favored in the past because it is one that you prescribe often), it will appear on this screen.

  • All of the details of that prescription are already filled out. Tap the medication and skip to step 6. Otherwise, continue to (B).

(B) Search the drug/medication you wish to prescribe by typing its name in the search field at the top.

(C) Review the medications from the search results.

  • COMMONLY PRESCRIBED: These are medications that you prescribe often.

(D) If you want to enter the prescription details, dosage, and directions manually, select the medication that does not already have the dosage underneath the name and tap the desired dosage from the dropdown menu. Skip to Step 5 (Without Smart Sigs).

(E) If you would like to prescribe the medication with the details, dosage, and directions already pre-populated (via Smart Sigs), tap directly on the medication that already has the dosage information underneath. Continue to Step 5 (With Smart Sigs).

Users can create custom prescriptions or choose pre-populated Smart String options (commonly prescribed prescriptions and their directions). For more information, visit the following article: Using Smart Sigs.

Step 5 (With Smart Sigs)

Select a Smart Sig (commonly prescribed methods).

Then, follow the steps outlined below in alphabetical letters:

(A) Review and confirm the following information that appears:

  • Duration (Days)
  • Quantity
  • Refills

(B) Scroll down, then select one of the following options:

  • Substitution Permitted: allows pharmacies to make substitutions of this drug
  • Dispense As Written: only permits pharmacies to fill medication as prescribed

(C) Enter optional comments to the pharmacists, then tap Continue.

Step 5 (Without Smart Sigs)

(A) Fill out the following prescription details, then click Save.

  • Action, Dose, Form, Route, Frequency, and Other

(B) Select and confirm the following information that appears:

  • Duration (Days), Quantity, and Refills

(C) Scroll down, then select one of the following options:

  • Substitution Permitted: allows pharmacies to make substitutions of this drug
  • Dispense As Written: only permits pharmacies to fill medication as prescribed

(D) Enter optional comments to the pharmacists, then tap Continue.

Step 6

Review your prescription details, then tap Sign and Send or Add to Pending at the bottom of the screen.
